FitDay
While I was reading about the Kimkins plan yesterday, I came across a link for the FitDay website. I'd heard of FitDay before, but never really checked it out because I really wasn't that interested in it. Last night I decided to sign up for an account (it's free) and input the food I eat just to see exactly how my day breaks down as far as calories, fat, fiber, carbs, protein, etc go. Wow! I was completely surprised to see just how many carbs and junk I was eating each day. I mean, I've always known I wasn't the healthiest eater since I'm not a big fruits and veggies lover, but this was a bit of an eye opener for me. I've just been eating whatever I wanted as long as I stayed within my points each day. That isn't working out so well for me. I know everyone loses weight at a different pace, but I know I should be losing faster (comparing to when I lost my weight before). I've decided to make a few changes to how I spend my points each day. I'm going to pretty much be switching to Core, but for awhile I want to limit my sweets and not use any flex points just to see how it goes. Get back to the basics a bit and cut down on my carbs. When I get bored or decide I've had enough, then I'll switch back to Flex. I just really want to try to eat healthier. No more excuses for it just because "I have the points and I can spend them how I want to". That's not working for me and it's just not a healthy way to eat. I did really good today. I ate healthy, drank lots of water (much more than I usually do), didn't eat any junk or sweets at all, and I just really feel better over all. I feel better about myself and I feel like I have more energy. I'll keep you posted on how I'm doing. Would any of you care to join me and eat a little healthier (I'm sure we all have something we can change about how we're eating). Even if you just cut out one thing that you normally eat that isn't healthy, that's a good start. TTYL!

Girl,
You cannot imagine how FitDay has changed my life. I think it is so cool you have found that site. I know Weight Watchers has a great program, but if you really want to know the down and dirty of the nutrition you are eating...FitDay is the place. I can't wait for you to play with the goals, nutrition graphs, and 'customized foods' sections that are available. These guys should pay me for how much I sing their praises.
Now, since you're interested in 'Kimkins', and their major advantage is high protein/low carb/fat, that chart that FitDay gives you that visually shows you the breakdown... well... what can I say. It'll kick your butt. My thing is 'high protein', but it keeps me honest on the vodka... (OK, TMI, but I think it is so cool you have found FitDay that I am doing a 'happy dance').
Keep posting. I'm a fan of your blog.

Aimee, I'm willing to eliminate as much junk as I can. I'll check FitDay out and run a day or two of my eating through it and see how it goes. Anything to get healthier is good to me. Thanks for the blog. Ben
I'm switching to Core in a week. I just can't bear to do it before my trip.
By the way, CONGRATS! You won my contest! Send me your address at questionsfordessert at gmail dot com and I'll get your prizes out to you!
Have a great Monday!!
Emily,
Ya, I spent a lot of time at the FitDay website when I signed up. I had a good old time trying everything out. LOL! I played around with the goal. I said I wanted to lose my weight by my birthday (nov 3rd) 2009, and it said I would have to lose like 1.09 pounds per week to achieve that goal. Of course we all know setting a goal like that could have it's benefits as well as it's disappointments (if it doesn't happen), but it sure was fun. :) I was entering my food journals into the WW E-tools site (I have a monthly pass, so I get it for free), but all it gives me are my total points for the day. FitDay is way cooler with way more info. :)
Ben,
I'm so glad you're going to eat healthier with me. I don't expect you to cut out ALL of the junk like I have, but I think you'll be amazed at how much better you'll feel when you at least cut down on it. I'd be interested in hearing how your eating breaks down in FitDay when you get a chance to enter it in.
Krissie,
I won??? How cool! I never win anything! Thank you so much! I can't wait!
hey Aimee,
i have a friend on myspace who follows "fitday" and she loves it! i'll have to check it out :)
Never heard of FitDay, but I'll take a look at it.
Fitday looks fun, but to time consuming for me to enter each thing/meal i ate. I entered a meatless sausage today(custom foods) because the one they had in their food listing was more calories than the one i ate. I got a giggle out of the "activites" list.
I think you hit the nail on the head when You said; "Get back to the basics"
When i re-committed myself to WW, i got rid of all the stuff that made me not feel good about myself after i ate it,but made me feel good when i was eating it!!!
So i no longer buy chips, donuts, sodas, candy. I cant bring it in my house. Like you said one time, "as long as its not open" i am fine." I am the one who controls, food wise, what comes into my house, which helps.
I was always curious about CORE, now i will be able to read how it works for someone else. I think most of the "family" here uses points.
Good luck Aimee.
My workplace has a site that sounds very similiar to FitDay that is available for employees. A couple of months ago I really made an effort to log in everything I ate and study the nutritional value. As you said, it's an eyeopener. I can't remember why I stopped doing it, either laziness or frustration that their food list didn't always have what I was eating on it. I too would like to cut back on my carbs. (I type this as I am scarfing down some leftover potato salad for lunch-but hey I measured it and it's accounted for.) Maybe this will motivate me to get back on track with overall healthier eating.
I have used fit day on and off for years. I find it's much more acurate if you use the "custom foods" for foods that have labels, also it keeps them there so than the next time you can just click on it again without having to re-enter all your data. GL!
Thanks! Yes, I started entering my stuff using the custom foods button too. I could find a few of the things I was eating in their list, so now it's in there just for me. :) FitDay rocks!
Mindy,
Well at least you measured it. Nobody said potato salad was bad, but it is high in carbs. I'm not cutting out carbs completely, I'm just changing the kind of carbs I eat and trying to not overdo it like I was. I can tell you just from eating better since yesterday my scale was down this morning. I'm not going to say how much. I want to wait and see what it says on Wednesday when I go for my official weigh in at Weight Watchers. I'm not looking to lose 10 pounds a week (not that I'd complain) but I would like a nice steady loss each week. I tend to lose motivation a little bit when the scale doesn't move very much or even if I gain. I'll just keep plugging away though. :)
Fit day sounds really good. I've never heard of it before. I read your post yesterday, tried to comment, but forgot my password so I had to bag my really lost comment.
I've never heard of Kimkins. I've done the Atkins, but it made me sick to my stomach, literally. WW has been working for me pretty well these days. Of course I'm only in my third week now, but so far it's good.

I love fitday! If you buy the one they offer you can't transfer the custom information (or at least you could not when my friend bought it a few years back). I use the free one. Love it. Instead of a far off goal why not look at a 10% goal or even 5%? It's easier to stay on track and see the progress. Great blog.
I nominated you for a Thinking Blogger Award! Visit my latest post!
Hope you had a great day!!
